Taste of India

I have been in India for 4 days now and I have mostly adjusted to the time change. Well, after I stop waking up at 4 am every morning, then I will be adjusted :-) It was nice to have the extra day to adapt on Monday as it was a holiday here and the office was closed. My first day in the office was Tuesday. It was nice to put faces to names of the colleagues I have been working with for two years. Oddly enough, my first day here was the 2 year anniversary of when I transferred from R&D to International Tax. On my first day in International, I was assigned a buddy who would guide me through the process and help with my first compliance engagement. His name was Farhad and he was on rotation to the US from India. He was a life saver those first few weeks, and really much longer, from random technology questions to office logistics he was amazing. Fast forward 2 years and he is my buddy once again here in India. He is proving once again to be a complete life saver for me. I am eternally grateful to him for all of his help and guidance in these two different situations.

My first day Farhad and Arun took me under their wing and showed me around the office, introduced me to all the team members, and took me out to lunch for my first authentic Indian food experience. It was extremely helpful to have someone explaining what each dish was, what was in it, how it was prepared, and how spicy it was. If I had been on my own I would have selected the hottest dish and most likely regretted it terribly later. Here are some pictures of the dishes I tried:
Ginger Court the restaurant we went to. It was about a 10 minute drive from the office

My first plate. From top middle clockwise: Gobi Manchurian (Cauliflower in a curry flavor), Lamb Curry with lentils (not spicy), Spicy Corn Chaat (or salad) and my favorite Mutter Paneer (Indian cheese -paneer and peas -mutter in a curry sauce). Not pictured that I tried Hyderabadi Biryani ( with basmati rice, spices and chicken). WAY TOO SPICY. That dish is a staple here in Hyderabad but I am not a fan. This dish is made with the curry cooked with the rice. Next onto my favorite part of the meal: DESSERT!

Payasam (noodles, milk, and almonds), Ice Cream, Gulab Jamun (delicious dumplings in a  sugary syrup), and Halwa (Carrot Fudge).
