I have been in India now for a full work week. I am adjusting to working two shifts basically. I come in around 11 am IST (1:30 am EST) and until approximately 6 pm IST there are no emails coming from the US. But once the US professionals start coming in, it sure does it get busy. I think I was on calls from 6 pm - 9 pm straight last Friday night. I am really enjoying working out of this office and getting to be here live for questions as opposed to time difference delays. I truly understand and appreciate now when I send requests at 10 am EST how frustrating that can be! It maybe the start of my day back in the US but it is towards the end here! Deloitte has 7 buildings around Hyderabad. A-H Block. Tax sits in G Block and H Block is directly next to us. The office layout is much different than it is in the Atlanta office. The offices/team rooms/conference rooms are along the outside whereas in Atlanta they are in the middle and break up the cube city. Here I have definitely gotten lost trying to find my way around. I pretty much have it down where I can get to the stairs, bathroom, and elevator. Here is a picture of what my cube looks like.It is really not much different than the one I sit in at home.
The SE staff/seniors that work here have been more than welcoming and helpful. They have truly made the adjustment much easier. Last week we bid adieu to one of our staff as he was leaving Deloitte. Arun and I had worked together on our large engagement for over a year now. I am really glad that my first week overlapped with his last. I wish would have had more time to work together while I was here. But I was very glad that I was able to meet him in person. The group had a farewell gathering for him Friday afternoon. I had heard about the infamous "cakings" but had never witnessed one first hand. This is typically done on birthdays and farewells.Man oh man, do I hope they don't do that for me on my birthday and if they do please avoid the hair.
The after picture.
The group went together and gave Arun a picture plaque of some of Arun's best memories with the group.
Arun and I on his last day. So glad I got to meet this friend. Now we can be legit facebook friends ;-)
Arun and Farhad. Two of my favorite people to work with and made my first week and transition much easier! Very grateful to the both of them.
