Not in Kansas Anymore

I have OFFICIALLY arrived in Hyderabad. After 2 days of traveling, with the time change, and 2 long flights I arrived at approximately 5 am IST this morning (9.5 hour time difference) What a culture shock. The whole feel is completely different. There were people every where with stray animals wondering in the AIRPORT. I felt like I had a million eyes on me and that I stood out like a sore thumb. Some gentlemen, term used loosely, felt the need to vocalize their thoughts about me. Even though I couldn't understand what was being said the general jist was derogatory and offensive. Thankfully, I soon found my hotel transport waiting for me to help me navigate baggage claim and exiting the airport. The commute to the hotel from the airport was yet another eye opening experience. I will never complain about Atlanta having bad drivers again! No one really uses lanes here and it was different to be driving on the left hand side of the road. As we exited the freeway there were again people walking everywhere at 5 am! The buildings are stacked one after another after another. It broke my heart to see children and stray animals wondering the streets. Definitely made me thankful about how lucky I am back home. The hotel is very nice and the accommodations make me feel like I am back at home, ish.

I would be completely lying if I said I wasn't terrified and second guessing what I am doing here. I am hopeful that once I get some sleep and meet people this feeling will pass. Below are some snap shots I have taken on my journey so far. I promise to take more once I am not shell shocked and jet lagged.

It's the final countdown....

Since my first day at Deloitte I have said that I wanted to do a rotation with our India practice in Hyderabad. It is hard to believe that 3 years later that dream is almost a reality. I leave Atlanta in exactly one month and will call Hyderabad, India home for 2 months. My visa has come in, I am up to date on all of my vaccinations (and there were plenty of them), my plane ticket and lodging are booked, and all of my internal paperwork is final.

The photo below shows where Hyderabad is in relation to the rest of the country. I will be based out of this city but plan to do as much traveling as time and work permits.
It will definitely be an adventure and I would be lying if I said it didn't slightly terrify me but I cannot wait for it to begin and to share my experiences with all of my friends and family!
